Laser Fungal Nail Treatment is best utilized to combat the dark yellowed toenails that have gotten that way because of fungus. More specifically, a fungal infection of the nail is called onychomycosis. It starts out as unsightly but can turn brittle and painful if not treated early on.
Laser Treatment can clear the infected nail and do so without pain. In particular, light rays are directed at the nail, penetrating it and destroying the fungus. Laser treatment also has no harmful side effects because it only targets the infected area of the toenail. This treatment is also effective in preventing the need for medications, which can cause other complications. The treatment generally takes no longer than an hour to complete. Generally, toenails will replace themselves every year and the new, healthy nails can be seen within the first three months as they continue to grow in a healthy manner after treatment.
Those who regularly participate in sports, lifeguards or fisherman tend to contract this condition due to the prevalence of fungi in those settings. Fungi thrive in humid, murky places. Elderly individuals are also more likely to have toenail fungus since their toes have been exposed to the fungus longer than younger people and because of a weakened immune system. Those over the age of 70 are especially prone to developing toenail fungus. Laser treatment is available to patients of all ages. Since the fungal nails can get significantly worse if left untreated, it is very important to get treatment as early as possible.
