Toenail Fungus Is Unpleasant and Damaging

Toenail Fungus is not something to discuss with friends since it can be embarrassing and cause health complications when not dealt with appropriately. It’s caused by fungi that grow and thrive in areas that are hot and moist. These areas can be found everywhere we look, from our public facilities to our own shoes! Toenail fungus causes damage to the nail via thickening, brittleness, strong odors and discoloration. Since it can spread to other nails, it should be treated with haste to prevent it from becoming a larger problem. The fungus that assaults the toenail can also occur from an unclean or improper pedicure. It is highly recommended to treat toenail fungus early on. If not, it will require more significant treatment to destroy.

Treatment for this condition includes:

  • Please use shoes that are clean and dry and change them frequently to prevent fungal buildup.
  • Use antifungal medicines to destroy the fungal infection. Antibiotics may be necessary to fight off compound infections at the fungal toenail location.
  • Laser treatment is very highly recommended as it can abolish stubborn infections deep underneath the toenail bed where medicated creams cannot reach. Light rays will be focused on the infected toenail to destroy the fungus underneath without major surgery.
  • In contrast, the toenail can be physically removed to destroy the infection and allow for an uninfected nail to grow back.
