Athlete’s Foot is generally the result of fungus contaminating the skin of the foot. This condition is also referred to as Tinea Pedis and is easily triggered because fungi thrive in warm, damp and shady areas like the inside of your shore. Your footwear is covered and damp and offers breeding grounds for fungus. This condition is highly contagious and is spread from contaminated surfaces or by walking barefoot in gym locker rooms, pools and showers. If not treated on a timely basis, it can spread to other areas of the body. Symptoms of this condition include itching, burning, soreness or odor.
Treatment for athlete's foot involves:
- Use of medicinal powders to destroy the offending fungus.
- Keeping feet dry and in the open to prevent fungus from thriving.
- Feet should be washed every day.
- Disinfectant spray should be applied to the insides of shoes to kill germs.
- Refraining from sharing shoes.
- Disinfecting bathtubs and other like surfaces to eliminate the chance of spreading fungus associated with this condition.
- Medicinal creams.
As it can be seen, treatment for this condition is necessary as it can easily spread if not dealt with, and can create itchy and painful feelings that may eventually lead to other serious complications. For these reasons, please contact us as soon as possible to not only stop athlete's foot but to also prevent you from spreading it to others in your household!
